New Mexico State women’s soccer opened up their home schedule on Thursday night against Arizona State. It was the first time in program history that NMSU has hosted a Power Five program.
The match was competitive as neither team could score a goal through most of the first half. In the 31st minute, NMSU sophomore forward, Sydnee Johnson received a red card after drawing a free kick in Arizona State territory. This was the key moment of the match.
In spite of being down a player, the Aggies found a way to open up the scoring in the match near the end of the first half. Bianca Chacon put a shot by the goalkeeper in the lower right corner of the goal to put New Mexico State up 1-0 headed into the half. This was Bianca’s first goal of the season.
Having ten on the field eventually caught up with the Aggies as Arizona State put four goals in the back of the net throughout the second half.
