La Cueva Sweeps Metro SoccEr in Boys and Girls
La Cueva owns the APS Metro Title in both Boys and Girls soccer. Both Bear teams put on dominating performances in the championship matches.
The girls match pitted La Cueva and Albuquerque Academy against each other. Senior Tessa Updegraff got the scoring started early on, notching a goal shortly after kickoff. She went on to complete a hat trick helping to carry the Bears to a 3-1 victory over the Chargers.
The boys championship match up consisted of La Cueva and Rio Rancho. Both Emari Camu and Gabriel Ramirez-Orona scored a goal to help the Bears defeat the Rams, 2-1. Senior goalkeeper, Mateo Nobrega, was absolutely phenomenal throughout the match. He came up with some huge saves late in the game to fend off Rio Rancho’s best efforts to tie the match.
