Lobos and Aggies play 113th battle of I-25

During a recent press conference, Vice President/Director of Athletics Eddie Nuñez conveyed key messages regarding the much-anticipated upcoming game. He underscored the significance of enthusiastic attendance from Lobos fans, highlighting the game’s expected distinction of attracting the largest crowd of the season within the state. He urged fans to arrive early at University Stadium due to the expected large crowd. Metal detectors will be in place, so allowing extra time for entry is recommended. Gates will open 30 minutes earlier than usual at 4 p.m.

New Mexico, led by Danny Gonzales, has a 1-1 record this season and recently achieved a resounding 56-10 victory over Tennessee Tech.

The Lobos’ quarterback, Dylan Hopkins, who transferred from UAB, has recorded 28 completions, 388 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, and two interceptions in UNM’s first two games.

New Mexico running back Jacory Crosky-Merritt enters Saturday averaging better than 100 rushing yards per game. He is one of only 24 backs in the country to average over 100.

The UNM offense averages 404.5 yards per game, while their defense allows 345.5 yards to opposing teams.

NM State is looking to secure their first victory in Albuquerque since 2017 when they defeated the Lobos 30-28.

This year’s NM State roster features four Aggies from the Albuquerque area, including starting quarterback Diego Pavia from Volcano Vista. Tyler Martinez, Colt Mangino, and Tyler Devera also hail from Albuquerque.

The Rio Grande Rivalry is an annual football game between the University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University, also known as the Battle of I-25. The rivalry started in 1894, and the Lobos currently lead the series with a record of 73-34-3.
