September 22, 2026 – New Mexico
Monday, Sept. 21, featured a light NMAA schedule, but Roswell and Los Alamos continued impressive runs in boys soccer while Capital picked up a volleyball victory. At the college level, UNM kicker Grant Glasgow earned a Mountain West honor as New Mexico and New Mexico State officially turned their attention toward Saturday’s Rio Grande Rivalry.
With most of the state’s high school volleyball schedule set for Tuesday, boys soccer provided two of Monday’s most notable results as Roswell and Los Alamos extended winning streaks.
Roswell wins 10th straight
Roswell continued one of the strongest starts in New Mexico boys soccer with a 4-2 road victory over Lovington on Monday.
The Coyotes entered the match riding a nine-game winning streak and made it 10 straight with the two-goal victory. Roswell improved to 13-1 and has now won five of its past six road matches. Lovington dropped to 4-7-1.
Roswell entered Monday ranked No. 3 in New Mexico by MaxPreps. The Coyotes now have an extended break before opening district play against Clovis on Sept. 29.
Los Alamos shuts out Santa Fe
Los Alamos also kept its momentum rolling Monday, defeating Santa Fe 3-0.
The match remained competitive through the opening half before the Hilltoppers pulled away. Los Alamos has now won seven consecutive matches and improved to 8-2. The Hilltoppers have won eight of their past nine home matches, while Santa Fe fell to 4-6.
Los Alamos remains home Saturday for a matchup with Bosque. Santa Fe returns to action Wednesday against Capital.
Capital takes down Española Valley
Monday’s NMAA volleyball slate featured only four reported varsity matches statewide, according to MaxPreps.
Capital earned one of those victories, traveling to Española and defeating Española Valley 3-1 in a non-district match.
In another verified result, Magdalena swept Carrizozo 3-0 in conference play. The victory moved the Steers to 6-4, while Carrizozo fell to 2-5.
The high school volleyball schedule becomes significantly busier Tuesday, with 46 matches listed across New Mexico. Among the notable matchups are Albuquerque Academy at Rio Rancho, Clovis at Goddard and Albuquerque High at St. Pius X.
Glasgow earns Mountain West honor
New Mexico kicker Grant Glasgow was named Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday after accounting for all six of the Lobos’ points in Saturday’s 14-6 loss at No. 24 Oklahoma. It is the first conference weekly honor of Glasgow’s career.
Glasgow converted both of his field-goal attempts against the Sooners, connecting from 24 and 42 yards. The two kicks came 2 minutes, 12 seconds apart late in the second quarter and pulled UNM within 7-6 at halftime. He is now 5-for-6 on field goals this season and 4-for-4 from 40-49 yards.
New Mexico, now 2-1, turns its attention to its in-state rival.
Rio Grande Rivalry takes center stage
New Mexico State officially opened rivalry week Monday ahead of the 116th meeting between NM State and New Mexico, scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces. CBS Sports Network will televise the game nationally.
The Lobos enter at 2-1 after pushing nationally ranked Oklahoma in a 14-6 loss Saturday. NM State is 1-2 and had the weekend off following a 29-19 loss at Hawai‘i.
The Aggies rallied from an early 16-point deficit to tie Hawai‘i before falling late. Running back James Jones rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, while NM State recorded seven tackles for loss.
New Mexico has won the past two meetings in the series. NM State’s most recent victory came in Albuquerque in 2023, while its most recent home victory over the Lobos came in 2022. The Aggies are 2-2 against UNM since 2022.
Saturday’s rivalry will provide the centerpiece of the upcoming New Mexico sports weekend, but Tuesday brings a much fuller high school schedule as volleyball and soccer teams across the state return to action.
