Albuquerque High delivered a statement performance in the first round of the state tournament, upsetting the No. 8 seed Eldorado Eagles 3-0 at home on Wednesday night. The No. 9 seed Bulldogs came out with energy and confidence, striking just five minutes into the match when River Applegate buried the opening goal to give his team an early lead.
From there, Albuquerque High controlled the pace of play, maintaining strong possession and creating consistent pressure on the Eldorado back line. The Bulldogs’ defense held firm, limiting the Eagles’ scoring chances and protecting the shutout through all 80 minutes. With the win, Albuquerque High advances to face the top-seeded La Cueva Bears in the quarterfinals, carrying momentum and belief after one of their most complete performances of the season.
