October 31, 2025 – VOLCANO VISTA HIGH SCHOOL, Albuquerque, NM

ALBUQUERQUE — The Volcano Vista Hawks overcame a tough match from the Farmington Scorpions on Oct. 31, advancing to the semifinals after a 1-1 draw and a 4-3 penalty-kick victory in the Class 5A state quarterfinals.

Farmington struck first when senior Eliza Palmer (#15) found the net for the Scorpions. Volcano Vista responded to tie the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.

Neither team managed to find the game-winner in regulation or overtime. Both defenses held firm as opportunities went unanswered, necessitating the shootout.

The Hawks went on to put 4 PK’s into the goal while Farmington could only manage 3.

The win pushes Volcano Vista to 17-4 on the season, while Farmington finishes at 13-6-3. The Hawks’ ability to perform under pressure and execute in key moments sets up a semifinal clash with district rival and #4 seed Rio Rancho.
