The Farmington Scorpions and the Volcano Vista Hawks closed out day one at The Pit. In a shocker, the Hawks upset Farmington, 57-52 to advance to the semi-finals.

The Hawks had four players that scored double digits. Senior guard Jalysa Hines paced the team with 18 PTS, 9 REB, 4 AST, and 3 STL. Lalicia Garcia contributed 12 PTS, Mia Zuniga had 11, and Zoey Loretto tacked on 10.

Coach Lisa Villareal said that Volcano changed up some things in this upset. They focused not only on Kjani Anitielu, who had 21 PTS for Farmington, but also Caris Dale. Dale only scored two points. Villareal mentioned that Dale was key in previous match ups where the Hawks fell short.
