ALBUQUERQUE — The No. 1 Kirtland Central Broncos defeated the No. 2 Gallup Bengals to capture the NMAA Class 4A girls state championship, using a strong defensive effort and a dominant second half to secure the crown.
Both teams took time to settle into the intense rivalry atmosphere, with Gallup holding a narrow 9–8 lead after the first quarter. Kirtland Central responded in the second, finding rhythm offensively and forcing turnovers to fuel a 16–8 run, giving the Broncos a 24–17 advantage at halftime. Allyson Tsosie led all scorers in the first half with 9 points, while Elaina Clani added 7, as Kirtland capitalized with eight points off turnovers.
The Broncos tightened their grip in the third quarter with stifling defense, holding Gallup to just five points while maintaining control of the tempo. Kirtland then delivered the decisive push in the fourth, pouring in 19 points to close out the championship victory.
Tsosie finished with a standout performance of 17 points, 10 rebounds, and six steals, while Clani contributed 15 points in a balanced offensive effort. Gallup was led by Mykeia Vicenti, who scored 11 points in the loss.
With the win, Kirtland Central secures its 22nd state title in program history, continuing a tradition of excellence. Head coach Devon Manning reflected on the team’s championship standard, saying, “It is not so much my standard as it is the program’s standard,” underscoring the legacy that continues to define Broncos basketball.
