ALBUQUERQUE — The No. 1 Logan Longhorns used a dominant second half to defeat the No. 3 Roy/Mosquero Blue 48–36 in the NMAA Class A girls state championship, securing the program’s first title since 2013.

The game opened at a slow pace, with Roy/Mosquero holding an 8–4 lead after the first quarter. Both teams found offensive rhythm in the second, as Logan edged the period 15–14 to narrow the gap. The Longhorns capitalized on defensive pressure in the first half, scoring 14 points off turnovers, while Roy/Mosquero controlled the interior with 14 points in the paint. Tayla Proffitt paced the Blue with 12 points and seven rebounds before halftime.

Logan seized control after the break, outscoring Roy/Mosquero 13–7 in the third quarter behind aggressive transition play and improved shot selection. The Longhorns maintained their momentum in the fourth, adding 16 points while limiting the Blue to just seven, effectively closing out the championship victory.

Senior standout Desta Rose led Logan with a game-high 17 points, while Reese Hastie contributed nine points and seven rebounds in a balanced team effort. Roy/Mosquero was led by Proffitt, who finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Constanza Covarrubias, who added 12 points in the loss.

With the win, Logan captures its first girls basketball state championship since 2013, capping a strong postseason run defined by defensive intensity and second-half execution.
