ALBUQUERQUE — The No. 1 Mesa Vista Trojans captured the program’s first girls basketball state championship with a dramatic 49–47 victory over the No. 3 Tatum Coyotes in the NMAA Class 2A title game, sealed by a last-second 3-pointer.

Mesa Vista came out firing, building early momentum and taking a 16–7 lead after the first quarter behind aggressive defense and efficient scoring. Tatum responded in the second, stringing together a 15–6 run to erase the deficit and send the game into halftime tied.

The Coyotes carried that energy into the third quarter, outscoring Mesa Vista 16–9 to take control heading into the final period. Tatum’s ability to convert transition opportunities and win key rebounds helped swing momentum in its favor.

The Trojans refused to fold, battling back in the fourth to tie the game late. With time winding down, Aaliyah Boies launched a desperation 3-pointer that found the net at the buzzer, delivering the championship and finishing with a game-high 24 points. Aubrey Maestas added 11 points for Mesa Vista, while Avery Henard led Tatum with a double double, 15 points and 21 rebounds in the narrow defeat.

The victory marks a historic moment for Mesa Vista, as the Trojans claim their first girls basketball state title, completing a resilient postseason run capped by one of the tournament’s most memorable finishes.
