March 14, 2026 – UNM’s The Pit, Albuquerque, NM
ALBUQUERQUE — The No. 1 Texico Wolverines used a dominant opening quarter to defeat the No. 6 Rehoboth Christian Lynx 58–46 in the NMAA Class 2A boys state championship, securing back-to-back titles.
Texico set the tone immediately, jumping out to a 16–6 lead after the first quarter behind aggressive defense and efficient transition scoring. The Wolverines continued to control the tempo in the first half, building an advantage fueled by 13 points off turnovers and a 18–8 edge in points in the paint. Junior Jett Curtis led Texico with nine points at halftime, while Rehoboth’s Trajen West kept the Lynx within reach with 12 first-half points.
Rehoboth Christian showed resilience after the break, matching Texico’s output for much of the second half. The Lynx made their strongest push in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Wolverines 19–16, but the early deficit proved too large to overcome as Texico maintained control down the stretch.
Curtis finished with 17 points to pace the Wolverines, while Bennet Whalen added 12 points and eight rebounds in a balanced championship effort. West delivered a standout performance for Rehoboth Christian, leading all scorers with 23 points, along with six assists and six rebounds.
Texico head coach Craig Cook praised the Lynx’s postseason run after the game, saying, “Rehoboth expected to be there. They are not there by mistake. They beat some really good teams.” With the victory, Texico repeats as Class 2A state champions, reinforcing its status as one of the classification’s premier programs.
