Volcano Vista vs Atrisco Heritage (Boys Soccer)
Volcano Vista and Atrisco Heritage squared off in district play. The Hawks started the scoring off early in the first half on a goal by senior Jayden Ortiz, assisted by junior Jovany Orona. Atrisco was able to answer back later in the half with a goal of their own, scored by sophomore Michael Rios with senior Jovany Ornelas providing the assist. The second half was scoreless until Volcano senior Nathan Lemaster put the Hawks up in the waning moments of a game that appeared to be headed to overtime. Orona also assisted on the second goal. With the win, the Hawks improve to 9-3-1, 1-0-1 in the district. The Jaguars are now 10-4 and 2-1 in the district.


Volcano Vista vs Atrisco Heritage (Girls Soccer)
The Volcano Vista Girls’ team also played Atrisco Heritage. The Hawks cruised to a 6-0 victory to improve to 8-4, 2-0 in the district.


La Cueva vs Sandia (Boys Soccer)
La Cueva and Sandia had a district match. This one was all Bears from the start. La Cueva started the scoring off early and never looked back. Sophomore Wyatt Holmes and senior Brandon Boling both had a goal and an assist in the game. Bears’ junior Justin Baca and sophomore Christian Gerhardt also scored. Senior goalkeeper Mateo Nobrega had two saves en route to a shutout win over the Matadors. The Bears are now 12-1 overall and 3-0 in district.


La Cueva vs Sandia (Girls Soccer)
The Bears and Matadors girls’ squads also played each other. Sandia came into the match riding a three-game win streak, while the Bears have been red-hot with eight straight victories. La Cueva junior, Leah Barone, started the scoring off of a corner kick, on which she had the first touch with her head. Leah was able to corral the ball off the Sandia defenders and put it away for the goal with her right foot. Matador senior, Ayla Dils, provided the answering goal for Sandia by scoring off a free kick just outside the top of the box. The match went into halftime knotted up at one a piece. La Cueva started the scoring off in the second half as well. Junior, Makayla Chavez, found some space at the top of the box between Matador and floated the ball by the goalie which put the Bears up 2-1. La Cueva junior, Bella Garciduenas, put her team up 3-1 when she was able to trap a ball cleared out of the box by Sandia and hit a rocket of a shot from approximately 35-40 yards out for the goal. The Matadors were able to score late in the half to pull within one but ran out of time trying to find an equalizer, eventually falling to the Bears 3-2. With the win, La Cueva improves to 11-0-1 overall and 3-0 in the district. Sandia is 8-4-1, 2-1 in the district.
