The West Mesa Mustangs delivered their most dominant performance of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating the Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars 55–14 in Albuquerque. Behind a balanced offense and physical defense, the Mustangs built a 27–0 halftime lead and never looked back, earning their second win of the season.
Quarterback Jaedon Woods set the tone early, leading multiple scoring drives with confidence. West Mesa’s first touchdown came on a 2-yard rush by Max Romero, followed by a 2-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Cazares to extend the lead. Woods later connected with Gio Martinez for a 25-yard strike, and Victor Aguilar Jr. capped off the explosive first half with a 30-yard touchdown run.
Atrisco Heritage struggled to find rhythm early but found some momentum after the break. Running back Josiah De La Pena broke through for a 5-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, giving the Jaguars a much-needed spark. Despite the effort, West Mesa’s defense continued to control the line of scrimmage, forcing multiple punts and limiting Atrisco’s deep passing opportunities.
The Mustangs answered right back in the third quarter when Marcos Ochoa raced downfield for a 67-yard touchdown, electrifying the sideline and putting the game well out of reach. Aguilar added his second touchdown of the day, a short run in the fourth quarter, sealing the 55-point outburst for West Mesa.
With the win, West Mesa improved to 2–4, snapping a four-game road skid and marking their highest offensive output of the season. Atrisco Heritage fell to 1–5, despite flashes of promise on the ground. As district play continues, the Mustangs’ performance on both sides of the ball provides a boost for the team.
