In the last game of the season, Albuquerque Academy stunned Hope Christian in a thrilling 4-3 victory on Friday, ending Hope’s remarkable 56-game winning streak. The Lady Chargers were led by Cambria Tero and Amelia Barnes, who each scored two goals to power Academy’s offense.
The match was filled with emotion and intensity from start to finish, as both teams competed fiercely in the district rivalry clash. Despite Hope Christian’s late push, Academy held firm to secure the historic win. The victory not only snapped the Huskies’ streak but also marked a statement moment for the Chargers’ program.
You have to go back not one but two seasons to find the last time Hope Christian lost a game which was on September 21, 2023 to Eldorado High School. Academy has played Hope seven times in that span, three of which were 1-0 finals in favor of the Huskies. The Chargers have been knocking on the door for the upset and today, they busted it down.
While the win puts both teams at 7-1 in district, Hope holds the goal differential between the two by one goal. The upset will help place Academy as a top seed when it comes time for NMAA State Soccer Championships seeding this Sunday.
